Get your calendars out! Here are the dates for our 2024 Australian Science Olympiad exam, Junior Science Olympiad exam and Big Science Competition.
We will advise when registrations open for the following programs via email in early 2024. Stay tuned to our social media posts and email newsletters!
We do not accept direct student registrations; interested students should contact their science teacher to discuss taking part. (As an aside, big thanks to the hard work and dedication of the schools, principals and teachers in helping your students participate in our programs!)
Australian Science Olympiads
The Australian Science Olympiads (ASO) are a staged science enrichment program for highly motivated students in Australian high schools. The Australian Science Olympiads consists of four disciplines: biology, chemistry, Earth and environmental science, and physics.
Dates:
- Physics: Monday 29 July 2024
- Biology: Tuesday 30 July 2024
- Earth and Environmental Science: Wednesday 31 July 2024
- Chemistry: Thursday 1 August 2024
Cost: The cost is $16.50 per student, per exam (GST inclusive).
This year, the Earth and Environmental Exam is free.
- We allow students to sit more than one exam.
- You can request to sit on an alternate date, providing it is not before the scheduled dates and no later than Wednesday 7 August. Please contact us when registering if you would like to request an alternative date.
- All students sitting a specific discipline must do so at the same time to maintain the integrity of the competition.
Junior Science Olympiad
The Junior Science Olympiad (JSO) is open to students in Years 7 to 10 and covers a wide range of topics in science, including physics, chemistry, biology and Earth science.
Dates:
Year 9 & 10: Wednesday 12 June 2024
Year 7 & 8: Friday 14 June 2024
Cost: The cost is $16.50 per student, per exam (GST inclusive).
- You can request an alternate date, providing it is not before the scheduled dates and no later than Wednesday 19 June. Please contact us when registering if you would like to request an alternative date.
- Please note, all students in the cohort (eg, Year 7 & 8) must sit the exam at the same time to maintain integrity of the competition.
Big Science Competition
The Big Science Competition is one of the biggest international science competitions, challenging students from Years 7 to 10. A 50-minute, multiple choice competition testing science knowledge, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Date timeframe: Monday 6 to Friday 17 May 2024
Students may sit the competition as a cohort at any time during these dates.
Cost: The Big Science Competition costs $7.70 per student (GST inclusive, GST is not applicable for international schools).
