What are the Australian Science Olympiad Exams?

Sitting the Australian Science Olympiad Exams is the first step in being selected to represent Australia at the International Science Olympiads.

Science-loving students are invited to challenge themselves by sitting one or more of the four Australian Science Olympiad Exams now on offer. Testing students’ knowledge, critical thinking and problem solving skills, the exams are held in the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and environmental science and Physics.

The exams last two hours and are carried out online under strict examination conditions at your school. Prepare for the exams by practising on Olympiads Online and trying out past papers.

Students who sit the exams receive a certificate indicating their performance with a grade. Individual student marks and rankings will not be made available.

Based on their performance in the Australian Science Olympiad Exams, students are invited to attend the Australian Science Olympiads Summer School. This enrichment program is an opportunity for students to further extend themselves in their discipline, connect with subject experts, and develop new friendships with like-minded student from across the country.

Each exam costs $15 plus GST. Students are welcome to sit more than one exam.


All students are welcome to sit one or more of the Australian Science Olympiad exams.

Students in year 7 to 10 are eligible to sit the Junior Science Olympiad Exam.

Students must meet certain eligibility criteria to attend the Australian Science Olympiads Summer School.
