The Australian Science Olympiad Exams are challenging exams in biology, chemistry and physics. They are open to all students in Year 11 or younger.
Separate exams are held in biology, chemistry and physics, each one on a different day. They test the ability of students to solve problems as well as their understanding of science concepts. This demanding exam lasts approximately two hours and must be carried out under strict supervision and examination conditions.
All students sitting Science Olympiad Exams receive a certificate indicating the grade they scored.
72 students who do exceptionally well are invited to attend the Australian Science Olympiad Summer School. This is a residential course in Janauary at Monash University, organised by ASI.
Teachers can enter their students by completing the online registration form. As a not for profit organization ASI relies on support from a variety of external sources. In order to deliver a high quality program, we will be charging an entry fee of $9 (plus GST) per student in 2012.
Students sit the Science Olympiad Exams at their school on the allocated dates. These dates can be found on our Calendar. Home Schools are encouraged to participate and can make arrangements directly with ASI.
In October ASI will notify the schools and teachers of those students who have been invited to attend the Science Summer School, and then talk to the students directly.
There are no restrictions on students sitting the Science Olympiad Exams. However:
The three Australian teams for the Science Olympiads are selected from the students attending the Science Olympiad Summer School.
