Dr Mary Oliver - Program Director

Mary brings a wealth of teaching experience at school and tertiary level in Australia and internationally. She qualified from London University and gained her PhD from the University of East Anglia, where she undertook research into students' understanding of evolution. She has taught Biology in the UK, Copenhagen and Western Australia and been Head of Science at schools in Western Australia and Copenhagen.

In 2003, Mary was awarded Western Australia's Westfield Premier's Education scholarship which took her to Kings College, London for training in the renowned program Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education. Mary does a little teaching of biochemistry to medical students and is involved with science education research projects at The University of Western Australia (UWA).

She is managing the delivery of the Thinking Science Australia project from UWA which aims to raise students' levels of thinking and improve their achievement at school. In between times, Mary finds time to quilt, relish good books, chocolate and music and road biking.
